The federal government has approved the establishment of a federal polytechnic in Abuja to be named after President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, confirmed this in a letter addressed to Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, on January 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alausa said establishing the institution is part of the ministry\u2019s plan to ensure every state has a federal polytechnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister said the project aligns with the government\u2019s policy to promote technological and vocational training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter asked the FCT minister to suggest suitable locations in Gwarinpa for both the polytechnic\u2019s temporary and permanent sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alausa said a technical team from the ministry of education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is expected to inspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the government is open to taking over existing tertiary institutions in the FCT if they meet the requirements for the new polytechnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the NBTE inaugurated a foundation to revitalise polytechnic education in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Idris Bugaje, the NBTE\u2019s executive secretary, said there is a need to address some pressing challenges facing polytechnics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said plans are in motion to strengthen institutional capacity, promote industry collaboration, and facilitate international partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
