A distinguished Nigerian politician, currently serves as the Governor of Delta State, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to public service. Prior to his gubernatorial role, he held the position of Speaker in the Delta State House of Assembly, representing the Okpe Constituency under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Oborevwori officially assumed office as the leader of “The Big Heart” (Delta State) on March 20, following a triumphant victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election, where he emerged victorious against opposition parties on March 18.
Born on June 19, 1963, to Chief Samuel and Mrs. Esther Oborevwori in Osubi town, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori embarked on his educational journey at Alegbo Primary School in Effurun, Delta State. He completed his secondary education at Oghareki Grammar School, Oghara, Delta State. His academic pursuits led him to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, in 2004, and later a Master’s degree in Political Science from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2010.
Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to continuous learning is evident through his participation in prestigious leadership programs. Notably, he completed the Leadership Executive Certificate Programme at the Alliance Manchester Business School of Manchester University and the Leading Inclusive Development Certificate Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
A member of esteemed professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Governor Oborevwori holds fellowships with the Chartered Management Consultant Chartered Institute of Management Consultants, Canada, and the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC).
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Governor Oborevwori received the Legislative Icon Award from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on May 14, 2018. This accolade acknowledged his support for educational endeavors and scholarship programs benefiting students across Delta State. Additionally, he was honored with the Chieftaincy Title of the Ukodo of Okpe by His Royal Majesty, the Orhorho 1, Orodje of Okpe, in appreciation of his significant role in the growth and development of the Okpe Kingdom.
Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated a proactive approach to addressing key issues affecting Delta State. Notably, he has initiated open talks with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to facilitate the company’s return to Delta State after an absence of over 10 years. His efforts extend to promoting mutual understanding among traditional rulers and their subjects, fostering lasting peace in the region. Furthermore, he has demonstrated financial commitment by approving an upfront contract sum of 78 billion naira to Julius Berger Nigeria.
