Ogun State Assembly Speaker Impeached

OsunReporters has released information indicating the removal of Kunle Oluomo from the position of Speaker in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The impeachment occurred during a Tuesday plenary session, with 18 members voting in favor out of a total of 36. The grounds for impeachment included accusations of embezzlement, highhandedness, and related offenses.

Subsequent to the impeachment, Oludaisi Elemide was promptly chosen as the new Speaker. Notably, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had brought charges against Oluomo on September 6, 2022, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The charges involve an alleged N2.475bn money laundering case, with Oluomo and three others facing counts of conspiracy, forgery, stealing, and money laundering spanning the years 2019 to 2022 in Ogun State.

Oluomo, however, was granted bail as the trial continues.
