President Bola Ahmed Tinibu Departs Abuja To France

President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on his second visit to France since assuming office in May 2023. Departing from Abuja on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, for a private visit, the announcement was made by Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale in a statement on the same day. Mr. Ngelale shared that the President is expected to return to Nigeria in the first week of February 2024.

This forthcoming trip holds significance as it marks President Tinubu’s second visit to France during his tenure. The previous visit took place in June 2023 when the President, alongside global leaders, convened in Paris for a vital summit. During this summit, they undertook a comprehensive review and endorsement of a New Global Financial Pact. This transformative pact prioritizes support and investment for countries facing the severe repercussions of climate change, grappling with energy crises, and dealing with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Tinubu actively participated in the two-day summit, contributing to discussions focused on exploring opportunities to restore fiscal space for nations confronting challenging short-term financial circumstances, especially those burdened with high levels of indebtedness. The discussions also revolved around mobilizing innovative financing to aid countries vulnerable to climate change, fostering development in low-income nations, and promoting investments in “green” infrastructure. This infrastructure aims to facilitate the energy transition in emerging and developing economies.

In light of these global efforts and the multifaceted challenges faced by nations, President Tinubu’s return to France underlines the continued commitment to addressing pressing issues on the international stage. As he embarks on this private visit, it is anticipated that his engagement will further contribute to the collaborative initiatives aimed at navigating the complexities of climate change, energy crises, and global health challenges.
